Community Update No. 13

Dear Perkins-sur-le-Lac neighbours, In this update, we wish to share some very exciting news about a new land acquisition project and the finalized lease agreement for 215 acres around the Ruisseau Carroll.

NEW LAND ACQUISITION PROJECT - PROTECTING 17.5 ACRES BY THE COMMUNITY, FOR THE COMMUNITY!

Located at 673 chemin Blackburn This 17.5-acre property is a small oasis, located in a very densely populated area of our domain in a narrow stretch of land between Lac Rhéaume and Lac Bataille, the two biggest lakes in PSLL. In addition to providing a natural buffer in this dense area, protecting this property from development in perpetuity would provide a long-term refuge for both fauna and flora. We would look to add a small network of trails for the benefit of our community to be able to experience passive recreational activities such as hiking and snowshoeing and run educational events on this property.

Environmental Features There are two small wetlands on this property, leaving no doubt of this land’s ecological value. The property also has approximately 64 feet of waterfront on Lac Rhéaume that would be protected.

Conditional Purchase Agreement Completed CPSLL has completed a conditional purchase agreement with the owner. We now have until October 10, 2024, to raise the required funds. Yes, we need to raise $250,000 in record time (purchase price $240,000 plus fees). We believe this community understands the importance of protecting this land. There are many ways community members can support this important project, contact us to discuss how you can help – Bruce McMullen (bruce@analytixlive.com)

Zoom Meeting If you want to be part of the conversation to protect this land, please attend the Zoom meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 7:30 p.m.

CORMORAN PROJECT As noted in the last community update, our work on this project is ongoing as we continue to work with a Terrain-laLièvre representative to see if the lot lines can be redrawn to allow CPSLL to carve out more strategic land for conservation. We remain hopeful that we can complete this acquisition project.

RUISSEAU CARROLL LEASE AGREEMENT In the last update, we mentioned that we were finalizing the details of a land lease agreement which will provide our community with access to over 200 acres of land, and we are happy to announce that the lease has been signed!

This five-year lease provides members of CPSLL with access to the land shown here. If all goes well, the lease will likely be renewed for another five years. While the main point of access is the logging road off chemin des Carouges, we are working to set up other access points on chemins Chêne-Rouge and Harfang-des-Neiges.

Our plan to cover the cost of the lease along with related expenditures (roughly $3,000/year) is through donations. Your support is important.

We hope to hold an official launch event soon to share the details of this lease and how we can fully benefit from this wonderful natural setting.

Some may be surprised that cycling is not permitted. Unfortunately, like other conservation groups, we have been unable to obtain the necessary insurance relating to cycling.

A reminder that membership is automatically offered to those who donate at least $50 annually. Click here to donate and become a member.

Thank you again for your interest. Please feel free to reach out at conservation.perkins.sur.le.lac@gmail.com should you have any questions or concerns.
