Board of Directors
Justine Akman, President
Justine has extensive volunteer experience in the field of international development, as a former member of her community association's Board of Directors, and for various youth soccer teams in Ottawa. She loves to kayak, snowshoe, x-country ski, and hike around our lakes with her flat-coated retriever. In her day job, she has led policy teams in the federal public service in the fields of immigration, multiculturalism, gender equality, reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and, currently, environment and climate change in her position with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
Joel Petit, Vice-President
Joel has spent most of his adult life working as an outdoor guide taking groups canoe-camping, hiking, climbing and many other outdoor activities. He has done a great deal of volunteer work as a member of the ski patrol and as part of the first aid crew for various festivals and sporting events. Joel lives full-time at the lake where you can find him swimming, fishing, cruising around, and most definitely playing hockey on the hockey rink he maintains during the winter. Joel has an Electrical Engineering background but works as an IT consultant implementing Supply Chain processes for various customers in their SAP ERP systems.
Bruce McMullen, Treasurer
Bruce has enjoyed spending summers with his family at their cottage on Lac Rhéaume for over 40 years where he enjoys swimming, boating, paddleboarding, hiking, playing badminton and spending time in nature. Prior to that, he was a derivatives trader at RBC Dominion Securities. Bruce has extensive volunteer experience in coaching youth baseball, hockey and soccer as well as working with the trails group in his local community.
Colette Labrecque-Riel Secretary
Colette discovered her corner of paradise on Lac Rhéaume over a decade ago. There, she enjoys kayaking, canoeing, hiking, snowshoeing, and just plain listening to the sounds of nature. Colette recently retired from a lengthy career with the Parliament of Canada. As a senior manager, procedural advisor, and Table Officer, she supported Members of Parliament in their Chamber, Committees, and international outreach roles. She is a former President of the Association of Clerks-at-the-Table in Canada, has attended and presented at many national and international parliamentary events and she continues to support international parliaments as a consultant.
Area Directors
Ann Dale, Lac Maskinongé
Ann is an avid gardener and swimmer, so having access to a beautiful lake such as Maskinongé with no motorboats is a gift. Ann has volunteered extensively helping to build capacity in the environmental sector. She is a full-time professor with Royal Roads University and her research is focused on climate change adaptation and mitigation, social capital and agency, governance, sustainable community development, social media knowledge mobilization and most recently, regenerative sustainability. She is a Canada Research Chair and a Trudeau Fellow Alumna.
Cory Bialowas, Lac Bataille
Cory works in technology but loves nothing more than to spend time with his family running, swimming, paddleboarding, skating and snowshoeing around Lac Bataille. A relative newcomer to the lake (2018), Cory enjoys paddling around and stopping to get to know his lake neighbours. Cory has been a volunteer coach in soccer and ringette for many years and has joined Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac to put his energy and passion for the outdoors into preserving the region’s natural beauty.
Isabelle Foley, Lac Louise
Isabelle, a lawyer by training, moved to Val-des-Monts over 20 years ago and immediately fell in love with the region’s rich natural beauty with its breathtaking forests, lakes, wetlands and landscapes. Between a job as a director in the federal government and her three children, she can be found spending time on the lake, kayaking, walking in the woods (with or without snowshoes!) and operating her little sugar shack. Isabelle joined Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac to take on the challenge of preserving the region’s natural beauty and its fragile biodiversity.
Greg Hill, Lac des Épinettes
Greg is a recently retired heritage preservation/art conservation specialist having worked for Library and Archives Canada and the Canadian Conservation Institute for almost 40 years. Throughout his career, he has served on the boards of numerous national and international professional organizations and he continues to consult. Over the past 12 years, he and his wife and daughter have savoured their time at their cottage on Lac des Épinette, as well as swimming, hiking and snowshoeing throughout the region. He looks forward to contributing to the efforts of Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac to preserve the beautiful and biodiverse environment surrounding all of the PSLL lakes.
Paul Chedore, Lac Corrigan
