Community Update No. 8
Dear Perkins-sur-le-Lac neighbours,
We are writing to update you on the latest news from Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac and to invite you to our first pledge events for the three areas where community members have expressed an active interest in purchasing land.
Efforts to Acquire Land: There are three key areas that are currently under active discussion and for which project proposals and partnerships between community members and CPSLL are being developed. All three areas are currently owned by Lauzon Foresterie (Fiducie).
These areas are as follows (see attached map):
• Area A (end of Harfang-des-Neiges at the NE side of Lac Rhéaume/W side of Lac Chevreuil);
• Area B (behind the NE side of Lac Bataille and heading from ch. Blackburn on Lac Rhéaume to Lac Maskinongé); and,
• Area C (between Lac Louise and Lac des Épinettes, adjacent to Colins Road).
Launch/Pledge Events: One of the first steps towards acquiring land is to determine the level of interest and financial commitment the community is willing to demonstrate. As such, we are busy planning launch events in order to provide information for people who may be interested in making pledges.
Details as we currently know them are:
• Area A - a hybrid meeting (in-person and virtual (Zoom)) will be held on November 26, 2022, at 3 p.m.;
• Area B - virtual (Zoom) meeting, February 2023 (exact date TBD); and,
• Area C - March 2023 (exact date and location TBD).
Brief presentations will be given on the goals of CPSLL, the vision for the specific land purchase, and a Q&A session. It will also be an early opportunity to help shape the specific “Land Use Agreement” that would be associated with the land purchase
If you can attend the first event on November 26, please RSVP to this email address (conservation.perkins.sur.le.lac@gmail.com) so that we may get a sense of the numbers. We will also provide you with the address and the Zoom meeting link. Refreshments will be provided for those attending in person.
We hope to see you there!
Donate: The DONATION button on our web site is now live. Remember we are a registered charity so you will be issued a tax receipt.
Donate and Become a Member: A minimum donation of $50 entitles you to become a member of CPSLL. Members will have the ability to vote on resolutions at our Annual and Special General Meetings and vote for the Board of Directors. Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac is run entirely by volunteers. Funds collected will be used for administrative costs, external professional fees, maintaining stewardship funds, costs associated with acquiring property and environmental education.
Donate Land via the Ecological Gift Program: In addition to being a charitable organization, we are now eligible for donations through the Ecological Gifts Program. This program provides a framework for managing ecologically significant land as a conservation area and offers landowners who choose to donate significant tax benefits, such as the elimination of taxable capital gains and a 10-year carry forward period for unclaimed amounts. For more information about the Ecological Gifts Program, please visit: www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/environmental-funding/ecological-gifts-program/overview.html.
Annual General Meeting: Our first AGM will be held in January 2023. It will be held via Zoom and an invitation will go out via this list once we have determined the specific date. Please stay tuned!
Species at Risk or with Status Site: We are developing an addition to our website that will allow you to upload pictures of any biodiversity on your property or around you to develop an inventory of the flora and fauna that surrounds us. Some of these may later be identified as endangered or at risk. We will be using iNaturalist (www.inaturalist.ca) to collect our data. Please stay tuned
