Community Update No. 2

Dear Perkins-sur-le-Lac neighbours,

Please find below an update on recent Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac activities.

Communication with Municipal Council

  • A telephone conversation with Councillor Claude Bergeron was held in early March to update him on the progress of our group and get his advice with regards to how to interact with the municipality. He suggested that we submit our questions to the Council and was very helpful in explaining various processes.

  • In March, the Group submitted several questions to the Val-des-Monts Municipal Council (See attached). The Mayor provided verbal responses to our questions during the April 6, 2021, Council meeting. The meeting video is available on the Municipality’s Facebook page. Here is the link. Once the Group receives the written response, we will share it with you.

Action Chelsea for the Respect of the Environment (ACRE)

  • Group representatives met with an ACRE representative after which we requested that ACRE be the land trust for our initiative. Unfortunately, ACRE is currently not able to provide active support to our project. It should be noted that ACRE members have been somewhat busy given the recent acquisition of land by Chelsea residents. You may have read about it as there were various media reports. Here is the link to one such report. This acquisition is a good example of what we are aiming to accomplish.

Other possible partnerships

  • Group representatives have initiated discussions with other conservation-focused organizations. We hope to be able to report on these discussions in the very near future.

Fundraising Strategy

  • While we have yet to confirm a land trust framework, we have begun to develop a fundraising strategy and we hope to be able to share more information about this strategy in the coming weeks.

Upcoming Survey

  • To better understand the community’s interest in this conservation project, we are developing a short survey that we hope to send out to as many residents and property owners in PSLL as possible. Stay tuned!

We would like to reiterate our invitation to anyone on this list to join our working group. We would, in particular, like to increase representation from as many lakes as possible in the Perkins-sur-le-Lac area. We could also use expertise in legal issues, accounting, ecological issues, and trail maintenance in our group.

Thank you again for your interest and please feel free to reach out to us at conservation.perkins.sur.le.lac@gmail.com should you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac
